Meeting Our Brother's Need
Blessed are those individuals who are finding ways to meet in some measure the pressing needs of their fellowmen. Mankind today are beset with great pressures of materialism, with trials and problems. There is great need for the lifting of these besetments of evil and the establishing of the kingdom of heaven on earth.
Spiritual healing, or healing through the power of divine Spirit, is the most practical means of meeting our brother's need. It is the purpose of this healing to restore the human sense of life to one of harmony and health. Those who are practicing Christian Science in behalf of others know its demands for unselfed love and purity of thought. These alone enable the healer to discern his brother's need and to meet it through the pure truths of this Science.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, recognized that much preparation of the heart would be necessary to make her students ready for the great work of healing. In "Rudimental Divine Science," she writes (p. 9), "To heal, in Christian Science, is to base your practice on immortal Mind, the divine Principle of man's being; and this requires a preparation of the heart and an answer of the lips from the Lord."
