Expectancy of Good

In one of the most touchingly beautiful illustrations of a practical truth, Christ Jesus called a little child to him and said to his disciples (Matt. 18:3), "Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."

Many children are blessed with an absence of fear and the expectancy of good. Those attending the Christian Science Sunday School are early taught the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes, which inculcate a fearlessness and an expectancy of good because they cultivate faith in God. These first lesson also naturally instill in children a love of the Bible and therefore a love of good.

It is clearly apparent that one who fears the future or fears evil in any form cannot be expectant of good. And yet expectancy of good is the means of opening receptive thought to infinite possibilities. The possibility of achieving all good is ours and is everyone's. As thought expands to comprehend the infinite resources of the divine Mind, the false sense of limitation, lack, and frustration falls away, and we find ourselves expressing the intelligence, capacity, and fruitfulness with which we are endowed as the perfect sons and daughters of God.
