RADIO PROGRAM No. 141 - Discovering the Man God Made

INTERVIEWER: Sometimes we get such a jolt we simply have to sit up and take stock of ourselves. We may ask: Why did I act that way? Was it worthy of the best in me? John W. Gardner, in his book entitled "Excellence." has this to say: "What we must reach for is a conception of perpetual self-discovery, perpetual reshaping to realize one's best self, to be the person one could be." (©1961, by John W. Gardner, Harper and Brothers, Publishers, New York, N. Y.)

Now, some may feel that this is aiming rather high. But how do we discover our best self?

SPEAKER: Real self-discovery is discovering the man that God made. And we can't aim too high in our efforts to discover that man. The word "discover" has this connotation : to reveal that which already exists. There is only one real basis for discovering or uncovering the true nature of man, the man that God made: through the spiritual senses. Man's true nature cannot be revealed by the physical senses.
