BELOVED SYNONYMS
I wanted
words like woodland streams that sing,
muted by distance and the pines' soft drone,
that gently spell God's love for us and bring tidings of this inheritance we own:
"Son, thou art ever with me" (all is thine,
and in My presence error is unknown).
This Father-Mother Love is yours and mine.
Life's blest infinitude before us lies.
Our pathway traces Truth's distinct design.
I asked for words like sound of bells that rise
in thankfulness and praise and joyful pealing,
and to my opened ears and seeing eyes
came well-loved synonyms for God revealing
His righteous government and tender healing.
