Gratitude Sets the Example

The role of the individual indisseminating Christian Science cannot be underestimated. Centuries ago Jesus, the master Christian, said: "Ye are the light of the world.... Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 5:14, 16).

In Miscellany, Mrs. Eddy offers this thought-provoking challenge (p. 158): "The burden of proof that Christian Science is Science rests on Christian Scientists. The letter without the spirit is dead: it is the Spirit that heals the sick and the sinner that makes the heart tender, faithful, true." Can we not find ample opportunity to apply these statements in our daily lives?

Many testimonies in our periodicals tell of a person's being attracted to Science through seeing Science applied in the experience of a friend, a relative, or a co-worker. Parents have abundant opportunity to instill in children the Christian virtues of love, honesty, patience, and so on, by practicing these qualities in their own lives. But here we may well ask: What motivates this desire to he and to do good? Or, What is it that inspires us to become laborers in the vineyard of Science?
