Seeking and Finding Good

Fortunate indeed is the individual who understands what genuine good is. Throughout the world at this moment a ceaseless quest for good is being carried on in many different ways, but how many seekers could accurately define good?

Somewhere at this moment there are people setting out in their automobiles in search of a good time; others are hurrying to the bargain counter in search of a good buy; still others are seeking good in strong drink or at the racetrack. The search for good is being pressed in many directions, yet all these people have one thing in common: their desire for what they believe is good, their desire to be satisfied.

May not today's great need be a common understanding of genuine good among all men? Then all could work together for its attainment. Ignorance of the true nature of good divides mortals and pits them against each other. It is significant that the more material a mortal's sense of good is, the more often does greed set him against his brother. The more spiritual his sense of good becomes, the more he begins to help his brother. The saint and the sinner are simply acting out two opposite concepts of good; they appear to be pursuing the same thing, though in opposite directions.
