Activities for the Armed Services

"You have earned our admiration and gratitude, not only for sending us these outstanding men, who will be a credit to both the church and the United States Army, but also for your initiative and vision in developing and implementing your excellent program of training for the Chaplaincy." This statement of in a letter to the department of Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services and refers to the Chaplain training program. It comes from a recent Chief of Chaplains of the United States Army. He then adds, "I congratulate you on this achievement and look forward to a continued input of these select young men into the ranks of the Army Chaplaincy."

Chiefs of Chaplains of the Navy and of the Air Force have made similar complimentary statements about the program and the men who have completed it.

The Chaplain training program was instituted by The Christian Science Board of Directors in the fall of 1956. It requires three years of graduate study in the field of religion and one year of service as a Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services.
