My heart is so filled with gratitude...

My heart is so filled with gratitude for Christian Science that I feel impelled to relate some of the experiences which I have had. I first turned to it, wholeheartedly, for physical healing over twenty-five years ago when I was suffering from tuberculosis. When the physician attending me at a sanatorium wished to temporarily collapse my lung, I asked to be released and then severed all contact with the medical profession and turned completely to Christian Science for help.

One day as I was earnestly reading our textbook by Mrs. Eddy, this sentence from page 368 was illumined in my thought: "Because matter has no consciousness or Ego, it cannot act; its conditions are illusions, and these false conditions are the source of all seeming sickness."

The realization came clearly that I was believing that matter in the form of germs was destroying matter in the form of tissue in my body, but "because matter has no consciousness or Ego" and cannot act, I had been believing a lie about myself. Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well."
