In humble gratitude to God for our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and for Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, I write this testimony.

Christian Science was first brought to my attention about thirty years ago by a relative who visited our home and left behind him a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Some years previously I had spent six weeks in hospital suffering from an ulcerated stomach and since then had been very careful of my diet. Shortly after our relative's departure, I experienced a recurrence of the old complaint and could not retain any solid food. Our family doctor's prescriptions did not relieve the condition, and I was resigned to accepting it as permanent. However, I was led to pick up Science and Health and out of curiosity commenced to read it.

The doubts and skepticism I had previously entertained about Christian Science were soon replaced by the realization that I had never before known how to pray and by a conviction that here was something for which I had been seeking. I read the book through without stopping and fell asleep in the early hours of the following morning. When I awoke I felt hungry, ate a big meal without any ill effects, and realized I was cured. Since then I have been able to eat food of any kind. At the same time I also found I had been healed of the social drinking habit.
