Mind Is Enough

Christians come slowly to accept the fact established by Christ Jesus many centuries ago that divine Mind is all that is needed to make them well and keep them vigorous. The true Christian Scientist knows that Mind is enough. It meets every need. It supplies energy to consciousness, restores the body to a state of order, and leaves the thought of the patient morally and spiritually refined.

This kind of cure accords with those accomplished by Jesus, whose method of healing was purely mental and spiritual. Mary Baker Eddy says of him in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.463): "Our Master treated error through Mind. He never enjoined obedience to the laws of nature, if by these are meant laws of matter, nor did he use drugs." She says further: "The sick are not healed by inanimate matter or drugs, as they believe that they are. Such seeming medical effect or action is that of so-called mortal mind."

The use of drugs is altogether different from the use of spiritual means for healing and always leaves the patient in a state of thought more material than the one he was in before resorting to medicine. Reaching for a drug instead of for Mind shows a state of undestroyed materialism on the patient's part. It is evidence that he does not consider Mind enough for the overcoming of his ills.
