Signs of the Times

The Chagrin Falls Exponent

Rev. David Browne Pearson, Columnist in The Chagrin Falls Exponent Chagrin Falls, Ohio

It is obvious that we live in a world that is pretty much dominated by activity, so that when in doubt or when uncertain about the future we feel we must do something about it. However, to live sanely in this confused world of ours we must have periods of silence. There can be no great intellectual ... life without quietness. There is just one way to have quietness and that is to have it from a source beyond people and circumstances....

The way to get away from the harassing illusion that your fate hangs on others and circumstances is to come to the realization that it does not. No man can continue to read the Scriptures and continue to think anything so fallacious. We are upset by little things only when we permit ourselves to become engrossed by petty happenings of life that seem as all of life and being. A man is in a bad way when streets, offices, doors and people are his universe. There is just one way to keep a perspective and that is to see them in relationship to the big real facts of life.
