I should like to tell of an experience I had in May, 1960. A large tractor I was riding tipped over and fell on me, pinning me to the ground across my hips. I was on low land, out of sight of everyone, and I could not make anyone hear my calls. My first thought was that it was the end for me. Then I began to work prayerfully, as I have learned to work in Christian Science, knowing that God was there with me. I prayed as earnestly as I could, and I began to feel easier.

When my son found me after about thirty-five minutes, I was numb from the hips down. He had to dig the earth out from under me to free me. I was carried into the house, and since none of my children are Scientists, they wanted to call a physician. I asked them to lay me on my back on the bed and pull my legs out straight, and then call a Christian Science practitioner, instead of a physician, to give me treatment. They respected my wishes and did as I asked. The practitioner began prayerfully to work for me and continued until the healing took place.

I had suffered a crushed pelvis; my left leg was broken at the thigh and below the knee; and the large muscle on the inside of the thigh was torn. My prayer was that I be healed not for myself, but as proof of God's Word. I had no medical attention whatever. My prayer was answered, for within three months I was able to walk with a cane and take a five-hundred-mile automobile trip.
