"Except God be with him"

"Rebirth ... is a spiritually mental process that may be
experienced here and now, daily and hourly"

Nicodemus , a ruler of the Jews, perceived and uttered a profound truth when he admitted to the master Christian, "No man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him" (John 3:2). In the ensuing discussion Jesus explained to Nicodemus that one born of the flesh must be reborn "of water and of the Spirit" before he can enter, or comprehend, the kingdom of God—before he can discern and utilize God-bestowed abilities. Thus he implied the need for a mental reevaluation of all that mankind had ever erroneously accepted as factual and tangible. And this spiritualization of thought is seen in Christian Science to be as necessary today as it was in the time of the Master.
