I am increasingly grateful for...

I am increasingly grateful for Christian Science as I gain a clearer understanding of God through my daily experiences, and I should like to tell of one such experience.

My daughter always seemed ungrateful, selfish, and quarrelsome. Although I longed to have her visit me, I dreaded the unhappiness she caused to everyone around her. Other members of my family were reluctant to come to my home while she was there. In fact, at one stage it seemed that I would have to ask her not to come until the other members of my family had had their holidays with me; but I loved her too dearly to take this step.

One day I read in a copy of the Sentinel an article entitled "To Label Is to Libel." Then I realized just what I was doing to my daughter. I was seeing her as a selfish, quarrelsome person and had labeled her as such. I was aiding mortal mind and bearing false witness against her. I was struggling with the belief that she must change her ways. I knew then that I must change my thoughts and behold her true selfhood as the perfect image and likeness of God. I realized I was not being honest with myself or with my daughter.
