WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST

[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on February 25, 1962.]

Devotee
(dev'o-te'—first e as in end, second as in eve. o as in obey). One zealously devoted: an ardent partisan; especially, one zealously given in religious duties and ceremonies; a zealot; also, a religious fanatic.

Self-containment
Self-contained nature or state. Self-contained, in its turn, means sufficient in itself; independent; showing sell-control or self-command. Having none of its parts in common with anything encompassing it; complete my itself.

Continuing instant in prayer (Rom. 12:12)
The verb translated "continuing instant" is derived from a root meaning stead last or strong and thus has various meanings which include attend constantly, continue steadfastly, adhere to, wait. The early English translator Wycliffe offers this interesting rendering: "Busy in prayer."
