Before I became interested in Christian Science, sickness was very real to me, and the human outlook very discouraging. I prayed as best I could and asked God for help. One night the thought came to me that I should try Science. The next evening, during a walk, I was led to a Christian Science church. The door was open, and I entered the building. On the wall over the platform these words were written: "God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him" (I John 4:16). It was a great comfort to me to know that God is Love. The knowledge overcame my belief in grief and sorrow and changed my thought completely.

That week I heard of the healing of a friend through Christian Science, and upon asking about it I was told of a practitioner, whom I decided to visit. She told me of Science and of how it heals, and then she gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to take home to read. In another week she showed me how to study the Lesson-Sermon, which is provided for us in the Christian Science Quarterly. I studied it first thing every morning and began to attend the church services.

As my understanding grew and my love for God increased, my health improved; also, with my change of thought, those around me became happier and more joyful, and the burden of sickness and fear of death gradually disappeared. Sicknesses which have been experienced during the years since have been quickly healed by my prayers alone or with the help of a practitioner.
