I first learned of Christian Science...
I first learned of Christian Science shortly after World War I when I called on a businessman who had been healed of tuberculosis through the application of its teachings. This man invited me to a Wednesday evening meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist, where testimonies of healing are given, and I was so impressed that I decided to see for myself what Science could do for me. I had had one operation for a catarrhal condition, but the doctors had told me that it would be necessary for me to have another and had recommended a change of climate.
I took up Christian Science, asked for the help of a practitioner, and was healed without having the second operation. Because I was drawing government compensation, my ill-health having been attributed to conditions overseas during my military service, I was required to go to a doctor, who said there must be a mistake on my record as there was now not even any evidence of my former operation. He said he would have to recommend the discontinuance of my monthly check, and his recommendation was acted upon. I was also given another examination, and they could find nothing wrong with me.
My wife was then an ardent Bible student and a Sunday School teacher in another church. When she saw me regaining my lost weight and looking so well, she decided to find out what made Christian Science work. She went to a practitioner and was healed of a heart condition, which had prevented her from obtaining insurance, and of another physical condition of long standing. She then became an earnest student of Christian Science and an active member of a branch church.
