Some time ago I had been seeking...

Some time ago I had been seeking employment for several months and had become increasingly worried as my financial resources grew less and less. Turning to an experienced Christian Scientist for help, I learned the wonderful fact that since all creation is completely spiritual now, because God, divine Spirit, is the only creator, man reflects the infinite abundance of God's inexhaustible goodness, which is ceaselessly unfolding. In reality there has never been a single case of lack anywhere at any time, because man's true supply consists of ever-present spiritual ideas.

However, never having had to meet a situation like this before, I found it extremely difficult to trust in the ever-presence of divine Love. The time came when I had run completely out of money and was faced with a rent bill to pay the next day. In great fear and despair I went to my bedroom and prayed to be shown the way out of this dilemma. Then I listened in silence, not knowing what else to do.

Within a few moments, I heard my sister's voice; she was calling from the garage to ask what should be done with a pile of old books she had found. I had not seen these for many years, but the thought came to me to take them to a secondhand bookshop where I sold them for sufficient cash to meet my immediate need. For several days thereafter I was sustained by similar instances of this nature. In one instance, some junk was found in the attic which was purchased by a local dealer, and in another, a boy came to the door and purchased an old Indian knife I had never needed. Finally, a call for interview came from a firm with which I had been in contact many weeks before. It resulted in an engagement to start work the very next day.
