The births of our two older children...

The births of our two older children left me with much fear of childbirth. Several years later I learned that another baby was on the way. During those intervening years, however, I had grown in my understanding of Science and had in my study of it searched the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings in order to gain an understanding of true, spiritual creation. Once while I was discussing the question with a Christian Science practitioner, he pointed out to me that God knows nothing about human birth, since the infinite cannot know a beginning any more than it can know an ending.

The practitioner whose help I sought prior to the birth of our third baby worked prayerfully with me when the need arose and stressed the fact that all reality was already in existence and complete. The thought of living in the ever-harmonious present was a great help toward overcoming fear. I spent a rich and happy winter praying and studying what daily unfolded to me, and I shall never forget that time of quiet closeness to God.

When our daughter was born, the birth was quick, and the whole experience was a very joyous one.
