When as a child of eleven I...
When as a child of eleven I experienced my first Christian Science healing, which was that of a severe case of constipation, I did not fully appreciate how deep should have been my gratitude. It was not until I turned wholeheartedly and earnestly to the study of this religion thirty years later that I realized the magnitude of that first healing.
I had just begun to turn back to an earnest study of Science when our seven-year-old son woke one night extremely ill. I did not wish to disturb a Christian Science practitioner during the night, but in the morning I telephoned the nearest one. The boy did not show improvement, and eventually a member of the family who was not a Scientist called our former doctor. She could not come for another six hours.
The practitioner continued to pray for the boy during that time, because I earnestly wished to rely on Science. By the time the doctor arrived the child was much improved. She said he seemed to have had scarlet fever, but she could not understand why he had not had a rash. The boy's improvement continued, and he was soon well.
