It is twenty years since I received my first healing in Christian Science. Up to that time I had always had excellent health and thought that Science could be of importance only to those who had physical difficulties. Meanwhile, for about seven years, I attended church service, with my wife, who took Science very seriously.

Then there came a time when my feet and legs began to tire quickly, and it became very difficult for me to cover the ground as I had been accustomed to doing in my outside sales work. My acquaintance with Christian Science had weakened my faith in medicine but not to the point that I had lost it altogether. On visiting several doctors I was told after examinations that I must give up smoking and drinking and take special treatments in addition. Being unwilling to take this advice, I quickly grew worse until I was forced to discontinue my work and was spending sleepless nights in great pain all the while.

At this point my employer became greatly concerned and called the specialist who had examined me. Although I was never given the diagnosis, my employer was told that if I did not go to a hospital immediately and have at least one foot, and possibly a leg, amputated, the results would be fatal. When I heard this piece of news, I resisted the thought of losing a limb so determinedly that I decided to turn to Christian Science.
