AUDIENCE WITH SPIRIT

True prayer is the communion with God which heals and transforms human consciousness with the divine. The individual who has a deep-down longing after the things of God, Spirit, can never fail to receive an answer to his prayer. Our Master, Christ Jesus, said (Matt. 7:7), "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

Prayer produces a mental condition which brings in the light and joy of spiritual perception; it ushers in and establishes the truth of being in our consciousness. "Pray without ceasing" (I Thess. 5:17) was Paul's admonition to the Thessalonians. Christian Science teaches that to do this is not ceaselessly to request that something may be done, but to know constantly the truth of God and of His perfect, spiritual creation, man and the universe.

In her book Science and Health, our Leader has written a whole chapter on Prayer. We can always find in it some statement which will uplift thought and hallow our daily tasks. One such statement is this (p. 15): "To enter into the heart of prayer, the door of the erring senses must be closed. Lips must be mute and materialism silent, that man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error."
