"AS A GRAIN OF MUSTARD SEED"

In the thirteenth chapter of Matthew's Gospel there are recorded these words of Christ Jesus: "The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof."

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy gives the following definition of "Kingdom of Heaven" (p. 590): "The reign of harmony in divine Science; the realm of unerring, eternal, and omnipotent Mind; the atmosphere of Spirit, where Soul is supreme."

Christ Jesus knew that man is spiritual and immortal; that he dwells in heaven, in the atmosphere of Spirit, God, "where Soul is supreme." With this knowledge, the Master saw a perfect, spiritual man when he was confronted with the false belief that before him was a sick, diseased, sinful, dying, or dead man. Demonstrating the power of omnipotence, he rent asunder the chains that seemed to hold men and women in bondage to a false sense of life and being. With tenderest love he comforted the sorrowing and brought the joys of supernal good into their barren lives.
