"PRIVILEGE OF MEMBERS"

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

Under the caption "Privilege of Members," Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. XXIII, Sect. 8): "Members in good standing with The Mother Church, who are members of the faculty, instructors, or students in any university or college, can form and conduct a Christian Science organization at such university or college, provided its rules so permit. Also members in good standing with The Mother Church, who are graduates of said university or college, may become members of the organization by application to, and by the unanimous vote of, the active members present, if the rules of the university or college so permit."

Indeed, it is a privilege to form, conduct, or become a member of a Christian Science organization at a university or college. Our Leader evidently realized the importance of presenting the message of Christian Science at the college or university level of education and the benefits to be derived from such organizations. There is no limit to the good that can be and is being done today in this field. Many a college student turns to the Christian Science organization for help in meeting his many needs.

College freshmen gain comfort, if there is a need to overcome loneliness when away from home for the first time, from the testimony meetings. These bring forth sincere expressions of gratitude for the help one obtains by visiting the study room, often maintained by these organizations, serving on committees, or acting as ushers, musicians, or Readers. 'These activities being carried on in an atmosphere of academic learning are important to the individual student's demonstration of a home away from home.
