For some time I had been looking...
For some time I had been looking forward to my vacation and had been preparing myself spiritually through extensive study, for I had arranged to have class instruction in Christian Science during that time. I had planned to drive over to the city in which I was to take this instruction, but the night before I was to leave, I arrived home from work suffering from influenza.
After dinner I asked a member of the family for some help in Christian Science and then retired to another room so that I could be alone. I knew that all the preparatory work had not been in vain and that error had no power to keep me from taking this step of progress. I held to the statement by Mary Baker Eddy (Science and Health, p. 215), "Whatever is governed by God, is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life."
This step. I felt, had been the outcome of prayerful study and therefore represented a demonstration of God's goodness and because of this fact no reversal could take place. This was a God-directed activity, and insofar as I followed God, I knew that I could not be denied the opportunity of spiritual growth and progress it promised for me.
