"PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD"

Although it is clear according to the teachings of Christian Science that the real man is God's perfect child and need do nothing to bring God's presence to him, there is something which humanly each of us needs to do in preparation for the demonstration of perfection. Samuel, we are told, adjured the house of Israel (I Sam. 7:3), "If ye do return unto the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines."

There are definite steps which each one of us should take in anticipation of the manifestation of the healing, saving Christ in his life. Each day he should put away false gods put aside the reliances and beliefs which are strange to God, which are contrary or unknown to Him. The ailing one in turning to God must abandon dependence on drugs and medicines and progressively put aside other cherished material aids and dependencies. But of major importance also is this: he must consent to let go of negative beliefs and faults of character, such as hatred, fear, ignorance, and sin, in order to make way for the Christ, Truth, to operate in his life.

Mary Baker Eddy declares in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 61), "Every valley of sin must be exalted, and every mountain of selfishness be brought low, that the highway of our God may be prepared in Science."
