FULFILLING THE REQUIREMENTS FOR FREEDOM

In the Gospel of John (8:31, 32) we find Christ Jesus' promise to those who believed in his doctrine, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The reward of freedom promised by Jesus will not be ours, however, until certain needful requirements are met. The Master indicated that steadfastness, faithfulness, and consecration are essential to the demonstration of freedom from discord.

If we find ourselves becoming apathetic about our daily study of and devotion to Christian Science in times of prosperity and success and turning to God, Truth, only when a problem arises, are we fulfilling the requirements which the Master attached to his promise? Are we really continuing in his word, or are we using Christian Science merely as one would use some material remedy? God, divine Love, is always adequate to meet our need, but are we meeting the requirements of God?

In "Science and Health with Key to Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (pp. 288, 289), "The eternal Truth destroys what mortals seem to have learned from error, and man's real existence as a child of God comes to light." Reversing a false, limited sense of man, we find the real man as the reflection of divine Love, God, who is the omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient All.
