GRATEFUL FOR GRATITUDE

Christian Science makes us grateful for gratitude, because Christian Science gives us the correct or Christianly scientific concept of God, the one infinite Father-Mother, as the one and only Father Mind, the creator and controller of man and the universe, and as the infinite, all-embracing Mother Love, tenderly guarding and guiding God's children. Yes, Christian Science acquaints us with God as Christ Jesus knew Him, that is, as the sole source and supplier of health and of happiness as well as of holiness, as the great Giver of every good and perfect gift, who provides us adequately, abundantly, with all things needful.

Christ Jesus, the Exemplar for all men and for all time, turned thought away from himself when, to one who had addressed him as "good Master," he said (Mark 10: 18), "Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God." Evidently the Master saw the desirability, even the Christian necessity, of identifying with God all the good of which we are appreciative and for which we are grateful. Thus we see that our sense of gratitude is much deeper, richer, and more meaningful than is implied in one dictionary definition of "gratitude," which is "warm and friendly feeling toward a benefactor, prompting one to repay a favor."

This leads us to see that in order to have the true sense, the highest sense, of gratitude, we needs must have the correct concept of God, which was divinely revealed to Mary Baker Eddy and which she has shared with the world in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
