May I express my heartfelt gratitude...
May I express my heartfelt gratitude for Christian Science and all that it has done for me and mine? About twenty-six years ago my mother found Christian Science through reading a copy of the Sentinel. Inspired by what she read, she was led to study Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. She later became a member of The Mother Church and of one of its branches and had class instruction.
When I was a small child, my teeth, as they began to grow in, were crooked. My mother held to the truth that God makes all crooked things straight. Within a period of months and without resort to any material help, my teeth were straight and beautiful.
I have also been healed of periodic headaches, and I can bear witness to the truth of the Bible statement (Eccl. 3:14), "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever." For more than sixteen years I have not had a headache.
I am also thankful for the protection afforded my brothers throughout the Second World War and particularly for the demonstration one of them made in a healing of malaria.
Though I had been reared in Christian Science and had attended Sunday School until I went to college, by the time I married I had developed both the tobacco and the social drinking habits. Realizing after a period of years no satisfaction or happiness in the life I was living and wanting something better for my family, I turned wholeheartedly to God through the study of Christian Science.
As soon as I took my stand for God, divine Principle, the desire for tobacco simply faded away and has never returned. Social drinking was also easily eliminated. Unpleasant personality traits were reversed through the application of the law of Love. Our little girl, then three years of age, was healed of fever one evening by the declaration of the truth that God is Love and that she was really His perfect child. Our little boy was healed of the symptoms of mumps when a practitioner prayerfully worked for him.
We were wonderfully protected one night when my husband and I had planned an evening out, leaving the children alone asleep. Because I had not had a chance to study the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly that day, I sat down to read and ponder it quietly. It was one of the most inspiring hours I have ever experienced. I derived so much satisfaction from my studying that I lost all desire to go out, and we stayed at home instead. Sometime later a prowler tried to enter the house; but I saw him, and his attempt was thwarted. I gave many thanks to God for Christian Science that night, and I give Him thanks for it today.
One day as I was reaching into the oven of my electric stove, my hand hit the red-hot broiler. At that instant the first sentence of "the scientific statement of being"' by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, flashed into my thought. This sentence reads (Science and Health, p. 468), "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." I did not feel a thing. It was as if my hand had bumped a piece of wood. There were no aftereffects.
For these and innumerable other demonstrations, for membership in The Mother Church, for Mrs. Eddy and her grand revelation, I give thanks.—(Mrs.) Trinette White Robinson, West Palm Beach, Florida.
