MAN'S UNITY WITH GOD

A Friend in another country once sent me a calendar with these words on it: "Dear God, help me to remember that nothing can happen to me to-day that you and I together cannot handle." I have been blessed many times through the realization of the unity of God and man that I have gained through my study of Christian Science.

This Science teaches that God is not man and that man is not God, but that they are united as Principle and idea. Love and its object. God without man would have no witness that He is Spirit, divine Mind, Life, and Love. Man without God would have no entity nor existence. The two are correlated in real being. God and man together have a perpetual, indestructible, harmonious relationship.

Christ Jesus proclaimed the unity of God and man when he said (John 10:30), "I and my Father are one." At that time the Jews, misunderstanding his words, were ready to stone him because they falsely believed that he was making himself God. But a careful study of his words indicates that he always pointed to God as the power and presence which he reflected. This reflection is the Christ, the spiritual nature of God. Jesus said plainly that he could do nothing of himself, but that God did the works. Jesus really was saying that he and God were one in divine consciousness as Mind and idea.
