LAW AND POWER
In a power-conscious age Christian Science revives the power that Christ Jesus utilized to subordinate matter to the law of Spirit, God. Law and power are inseparable, and there could be no superior power without superior law. Power is the ability to act, and God acts through law to assert His presence and supremacy.
Physical laws, so called, manifest power only as long as they are consciously or unconsciously believed. But when divine law is understood as the force that carries out God's design for His perfectly ordered creation, false laws lose their seeming power to act, and real law is proved to be in control. We may desire the power to heal mankind, but we express it only in the measure that we understand real law as the Father's will and obey it in our hearts.
The works of Jesus showed a mode of law that is unknown to material sense. We know now through Christian Science that his works were not miracles but demonstrations of spiritual law. of the truth that he said would make us free. When he spoke the truth, the people, according to Luke (4:32), "were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power."
