Before coming into Christian Science...
Before coming into Christian Science I realized that over a period of years the friends who had attracted me most were Christian Scientists. Since I liked the peaceful atmosphere of the Church of Christ, Scientist, I began to attend regularly the services in a branch church.
Very quickly I saw the importance of memorizing "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468), and even before I had it memorized I used it effectively. On one occasion I spilled smoking hot wax over my hand. At first the pain was excruciating; but "the scientific statement of being" came to me instantly, and I clung to it. The first lines read: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."
The healing was instantaneous. I was convinced that Christian Science is a workable religion and that I wanted it. We enrolled our children in the Sunday School. I shall always be grateful for the training they received there. Their children are now attending the Christian Science Sunday School.
