MAN'S CONTINUING USEFULNESS

A Friend of the writer's, who is slightly beyond the normal age limit for his profession, found himself suddenly unemployed. During the ensuing months, he made many desirable contacts; but each interview terminated on the same note: he was too old.

Although he was just beginning the study of Christian Science, his wife, who is a consecrated worker in the Christian Science movement, helped him to see that even though he was well trained in a specific field, his employment and security were not necessarily bounded by that particular profession. For Christian Science teaches that spiritual qualities are always in demand and are valued. He began to think of ways in which he could be helpful to others, even laboring without remuneration in an industry completely foreign to him.

Since he was alert and learned quickly the technicalities involved in these new endeavors, he was given steady employment which had unusual possibilities for advancement. He was not aware of it at the time, but it was apparent to others that the joy and confidence displayed in his newly found employment were the results of his release from a sense of fear occasioned by a mortal belief of age limitation.
