For the many blessings that have come to me and mine through Christian Science, I gratefully submit this testimony. While I was in the hospital at the time of the birth of our third child, a chronic condition of hemorrhoids, to which I had given only spasmodic attention, became greatly aggravated. The physician who attended the birth of the baby asked that a surgeon be permitted to look at the condition. His verdict was that an operation was immediately necessary because of a degenerative condition which would only continue to grow worse, and he feared gangrene.

That night in the hospital I turned to God in prayer. A feeling of joy and peace filled my consciousness, and I knew that the healing would come. I had had Christian Science treatment for the birth of the baby; and after signing five releases, I was discharged from the hospital, and Christian Science treatment was continued. I shall always be very grateful for the loving help and encouragement of the practitioner at this time.

During the days following my release from the hospital, I spent much time thinking of man, made in God's image and likeness. I pondered these words by Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health (p. 475): "Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique. He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas." Also two statements that were in an editorial in a copy of The Christian Science Journal were very helpful. They stated that "disease is mental and that Mind alone can cure it" and that "when a discordant condition is actually understood to be unreal, it disappears."
