My first testimony was published...
My first testimony was published in The Christian Science journal for January, 1930. Out of gratitude I am inspired to share the many blessings which have come to me since then, and also to express grateful thanks for the privilege of having been a guest at the Christian Science Benevolent Association, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
A healing for which I am especially grateful is that of a severe obstruction in my throat, which continued for several months. During this time I studied and prayed earnestly to gain more understanding of God and of my true relationship to Him. Finally it became clear to me that I had been harboring a sense of resentment toward a relative, believing that he was responsible for obstructing my growth in Science. As I replaced these erroneous thoughts with love and compassion, the throat difficulty vanished entirely, leaving me with a greater love for all mankind.
Another healing, which took place in a Christian Science Reading Room, was that of a dislocated knee. In this quiet and peaceful atmosphere my thought was spiritually uplifted, and the prayerful contemplation of this statement from the Bible (Isa. 35:6), "Then shall the lame man leap as an hart," resulted in an immediate healing. Through this healing a young woman who was employed in a nearby office was led to investigate Christian Science.
Our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in Science and Health (p. 192), "Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power." This was proven true in my experience while serving as Second Reader in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
Two days after a severe fall down the cellar stairs which resulted in a sprained ankle, I was able to take a trip of fifty miles, by bus, in order to be in my place at the Sunday church service. A few minutes before going onto the platform, I found that I could fasten my shoe. This had been an impossibility until then. The realization that I had not taken this trip through human will but had acted in obedience to the divine will brought my healing immediately. I had no further difficulty with the ankle.
Several years later, while working and praying to be of greater service to our beloved Cause of Christian Science, I was led to find companionship with an earnest student of this Science, a relationship which eventually led to marriage.
In "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy writes in regard to marriage (p. 52), "To be normal, it must be a union of the affections that tends to lift mortals higher."
This statement was later proven effective in our experience, for my husband and I were instrumental in forming a Christian Science Society, which has met the needs of many. Circumstances were such that neither of us could have taken this step individually. For the privilege of serving this society in many capacities and also for the blessing of class instruction, I am deeply grateful.
It is the unselfed love of Mrs. Eddy which made the discovery of Christian Science possible, and it is my desire to show my gratitude by living in accordance with her admonition in her Message to The Mother Church for 1901 (p. 34), "Obey strictly the laws that be, and follow your Leader only so far as she follows Christ."—(Mrs.) Daisy F. Chase, Hancock, New Hampshire.
