In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy tells us (p. 492): "For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence. In reality there is no other existence, since Life cannot be united to its unlikeness, mortality." This statement finds its correlative in the Bible, where Paul states (Acts 17:28), "In him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."

The results of the application and the realization of these truths were proved to me in October, 1955. I was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage, paralyzing my entire right side from neck to foot. Any slight movement caused considerable pain. The help of a Christian Science practitioner was asked for immediately, and then I was taken to a Christian Science nursing home. Upon arrival, I was lovingly placed in bed with practically no sense of pain; and with gratitude in my heart to God for His loving care and protection, I soon fell asleep and slept without any interruption until morning.

Prayerful work by the Christian Science practitioner was continued. The nurses tending me were gracious and considerate and would often declare the truth audibly to me when requested to do so.
