THE DEMONSTRATION OF UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD

Through the elimination of the barriers of time and space, the inhabitants of the world are being drawn closer together, and it is important that they learn to understand each other and to live together in peace and good will. During the current week in the United States, attention is being focused on the demonstration of brotherhood among men, and therefore it is well for the Christian Scientist to clarify his thought on the meaning of true brotherhood.

It is recorded in the Bible that one of the disciples once came to Christ Jesus and told him that his mother and brothers had come to see him. Then the Way-shower asked the question (Matt. 12:48), "Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?" And stretching forth his hand toward the disciples he said: "Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother."

Herein is the test of true brotherhood: to do the will of God. Jesus described this true sense of brotherhood in the following words (John 15:12): "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you."
