GOD'S PROVISION

In times of national crises, inspired men and women have generally appeared on the scene, ready to devote themselves to leading their people higher in the scale of liberty and self-reliance. No sacrifice has been too great for these patriots to make in order to attain a worthy goal. Often they have seemed to be inspired by a higher power, by God Himself.

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 340): "The lives of great men and women are miracles of patience and perseverance. Every luminary in the constellation of human greatness, like the stars, comes out in the darkness to shine with the reflected light of God." The consistent appearing of that which is needed assures one of the presence of God and of the action of divine law, ever working to assert God's provision of good for the causes which merit it.

Christ Jesus understood that his appearing was the result of the operation of God's will, which is His law and which is ever acting to produce the highest good. Jesus said (John 6:38), "I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." The Master did not waver from the mission which he saw clearly before him. He patiently worked out the divine Principle and rule of being—God and His wisdom—in their application to the need for dispelling mortality.
