"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). The truth I have learned through the Bible and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy has indeed made me free from many beliefs. I have been freed from smoking, social drinking, constipation, a tendency to catch cold, and violent temper. I have also gained my freedom to enjoy travel, whether by land, sea, or air, and in many other ways I enjoy the freedom that a study of Christian Science brings.

While serving in the Seabees during World War II on the island of Guam, I contracted a skin disease caused by a fungus. This skin infection was prevalent throughout the battalion, and materia medica was recommended to me; but I never felt tempted to resort to it because of the sense of freedom I had gained through the Christ, Truth, previous to this time. Instead, I turned to the textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health, and earnestly sought a solution to this problem.

When I found it was not being overcome, however, I asked for help from a Camp Welfare Worker, the title then used. A quick healing followed. The speed of it brought forth much favorable comment from my tentmates. The healing has been permanent.
