THE VALUE OF GRATITUDE

In the book of Revelation there is a scene in which a great multitude, clad in robes of white and with palms in their hands, stood before the throne of God. Then, crying with a loud voice, they worshiped God, saying (7:10), "Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb."

The ones who gave voice to this psalm of praise and thanksgiving are described as those who experienced great tribulation and purified themselves through the power of the Christ.

Gratitude is the natural expression of all who experience the healing and cleansing power of God and who thereby glimpse something of His all-embracing love and His tender care of His creation. When Christ Jesus healed the ten lepers, only one returned to give thanks. That one had not only experienced a physical healing, but had gained some measure of spiritual purification which inevitably led to such a surge of gratitude that he turned back to Jesus. Glorifying God with a loud voice, he fell down at the Master's feet, giving him thanks.
