THE IMPORTANCE OF WATCHING OUR THINKING

What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch" (Mark 13:37). This is one of the most important commands given by Christ Jesus to his followers, and it behooves us to be constantly alert to keep a proper watch over our thinking. It is generally conceded that as a man "thinketh in his heart, so is he" (Prov. 23:7). Yet many people suffering from bodily discomfort and disease are reluctant to look to a change of their thinking for healing. In the last analysis, however, this is the only true remedy.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy gives us this important counsel (p. 392): "Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously."

Students of Christian Science are grateful that through the understanding of God as omnipotent and omnipresent good and of man's inseparable relationship to Him as His image and likeness, they are able to prove the power of right thinking to prevent or eliminate discord. Implicit in this right thinking is the replacing of the false beliefs of hatred, envy, fear, resentment, self-pity, and so on, with love, joy, confidence, gratitude, forgiveness, and other Godlike qualities.
