Recently I had an experience in which I had to rely solely on the all-power of God for my activity, for my legs would not hold me up. The dislocation of an intervertebral disk caused me much trouble, making me completely helpless.

Because of the pain, great fear crept into my consciousness—fear that moving might bring the pain back again. Being all alone, I was fearful of not getting things done and worried about details.

I called a Christian Science practitioner for help, and I was immediately assured that this condition was only a false belief arguing that matter is real and has power. The practitioner assured me that God is All-in-all. He fills all space, is all substance, and there is no other power. She asked me to read this statement by Mrs. Eddy in "Retrospection and Introspection'" (p. 94): "When all fleshly belief is annihilated, and every spot and blemish on the disk of consciousness is removed, then, and not till then, will immortal Truth be found true, and scientific teaching, preaching, and practice be essentially one." The practitioner told me that the only disk I really had was spiritual and mental.
