Many years ago, on our way...

Many years ago, on our way home from church one Sunday evening, a large bus hit our car, demolishing it. My husband and I were thrown out and were picked up unconscious and taken to the emergency hospital.

I was awakened by hearing my own voice saying: "God is my Life. God is my Life." The doctor heard me and asked which doctor I wanted. I replied that I wished to have a Christian Science practitioner, and I gave him her name.

The doctor telephoned to the practitioner and related what had happened. He then told her that my husband was apparently dead. The practitioner silently denied this statement and took up the work for us in Christian Science. She continued faithful work until the healings herein related were fully accomplished.

We were both removed to another hospital; but they did not bring my husband to my room for some time, because they were waiting to see if he revived. Finally they brought him in.

The following morning, the doctor who had attended us at the emergency hospital called to see us, and he asked me, "What did I hear you say last night?"

I then repeated the words, "God is my Life," which had awakened me to consciousness and had attracted his attention. He added: "You will get along all right with that kind of a thought."

I pondered earnestly the meaning of the words, "God is my Life," and worked to know that death could not enter. I clung to the words of Christ Jesus (John 5:24), "He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." I also held to these words of Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 347): "Nothing really has Life but God, who is infinite Life; hence all is Life, and death has no dominion."

After a few days, the nurse came to inform me that my husband was passing on. Instead, he revived, and in twelve days we were both released from the hospital. We returned home and were able to care for ourselves. In about two weeks my husband returned to work as a gas station attendant, and he has suffered no aftereffects. During the twelve days spent in the hospital, we received the greatest kindness, but took no medicine.

The doctor desired to take an X-ray picture of my condition, but I declined. He felt that I was suffering from a fractured spine. He also expressed doubt that the sight would be restored to one eye. I am grateful to testify that the intense pain and other evidences of the fractured spine were healed and that sight did return to the eye.

I am very grateful to God, to Christ Jesus, and to the Master's faithful follower, Mary Baker Eddy, who has given us the Science which presents the true, spiritual interpretation of the Bible and which reveals how Jesus healed. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church, in a branch church, and for class instruction. —(Mrs.) Alice Reichardt, Oakland, California.

I wish to verify my wife's testimony and to express gratitude for this healing and for all the help I have received from the study of Christian Science.—Walter Reichardt.
