GIVING "A CUP OF COLD WATER ..."

"Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences." So writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 570 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." One splendid way in which Christian Scientists are fulfilling this counsel of their Leader is the establishment and support of Christian Science Reading Rooms.

The Church of Christ, Scientist, gives visible evidence of God's care for His children. All its activities are designed to awaken mankind from the dream of mortality to the freedom and bliss of spiritual reality. Mrs. Eddy's tender love for humanity is clearly shown in her provision for Reading Rooms in the Manual of The Mother Church. Her obedient followers manifest the same universal love when they give to their communities these oases, where the thirsting consciousness may drink living waters of spiritual healing and regeneration.

Article XXI, Section 1, of the Manual states, "Each church of the Christian Science denomination shall have a Reading Room, though two or more churches may unite in having Reading Rooms, provided these rooms are well located." Faithful church members gratefully comply with the letter of this inspired mandate, and they rejoice in every opportunity of fulfilling its spirit more bountifully.
