LETTER TO PARENTS

Pearl Strachan Hurd

Where find in outer space
Or on the surface
Of some other planet
What cannot be found on earth—
Locale beyond reach of prayer?

Not more beyond help
Your space-age children
Than those on familiar beach
Or charted sea
Or the now shrunken,
Traveled fields of air.

Not reversible
Fact of omnipotence.
Not reducible
Speed of thought—
Fastest of all expression
And effective everywhere.
