It is with a deep sense of gratitude...

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I testify to the healing power of Christian Science in my experience.

When I was nine years old, my baby brother was healed of convulsions. When he seemed to have passed on, my mother, in desperation, sent me to our neighbor, who was a Christian Scientist, to ask her if there was something she could do for us. She immediately called a Christian Science practitioner, and within a very few minutes the baby began to breathe normally, and that was the end of the convulsions.

This experience made a vivid impression on me, and I was happy to be able to attend the Christian Science Sunday School, where I learned of God and of man, created in His image and likeness. Also I learned that what had seemed miraculous was in reality divinely natural. I can never be grateful enough for my Sunday School training.

During World War II, my husband was called to serve in the infantry. We both held to the thought that God is the only power and presence and that divine Love, Truth, and Life are ever present, filling all space.

Mrs. Eddy says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (pp. 149, 150): "Remember, thou canst be brought into no condition, be it ever so severe, where Love has not been before thee and where its tender lesson is not awaiting thee. Therefore despair not nor murmur, for that which seeketh to save, to heal, and to deliver, will guide thee, if thou seekest this guidance."

We surely did seek this divine guidance, which was proved to be present in a moment of great extremity. My husband was stationed in England, and two days after D-day he was sent to France. His outfit got as far as St. Lo, when he was hit on the head with a piece of shrapnel. A young friend from his home town saw him fall. This soldier wrote to his mother and asked her to be sure to tell me that my husband had been wounded.

Divine Love alone guided my husband off the battlefield. Before I received the customary notice from the government, announcing my husband's injury, I had received a V-mail letter from him and also the telephone message from his friend's mother; so I was able to secure treatment for him from a Christian Science practitioner in the United States. Never for a moment did he let go of the truths he knew. His complete reliance on God, together with the loving help of the practitioner, culminated in healing and a safe return home.

Whenever I think of this experience, I know that no words could ever express the fullness of my gratitude for the blessings that have come to me and mine through the study and application of this beautiful truth, as revealed to us by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.

My husband and I are active members of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and our two sons are enrolled in the Sunday School. They have already learned the value of the Sunday School and make good use of the truths they are taught.

For all the activities of the Christian Science movement and for all the good that is being accomplished through the efforts of The Mother Church, the branch churches, The Christian Science Publishing Society, the lecturers, and the practitioners, I am eternally grateful.— (Mrs.) Doris Scheer, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

I wish to verify my wife's testimony and to corroborate the facts stated concerning my wartime experience. I am also very grateful to be a living witness to this wonderful truth. It has been our daily supply and an ever-present help in meeting our problems. I am deeply grateful for the understanding of God which has come to me through the teachings of Christian Science and which I have learned leads the way to peace and harmony.— Roland K. Scheer.
