THE SOURCE OF DAVID'S STRENGTH IS OURS

Through the understanding of his unity with divine power, David was victorious over many adverse conditions. In his psalm of praise and thanksgiving to God, recorded in II Samuel, David said (22:2, 3), "The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; the God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour." Later in the song he declared, "God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect."

Was not David expressing gratitude for the very things we believe essential to our own well-being? What further blessings can one desire than an assurance of God's changeless love and care, the strength and wisdom to meet triumphantly the demands of each day, and the spiritual inspiration which is necessary for true happiness?

Nothing has occurred in the years intervening between David's time and ours to alter God's good will toward men. Yet the carnal mind would often stubbornly insist that it is impossible for men of this more sophisticated world to be as close to God as were the men of simpler days. The inaccuracy of such an assertion is clear in the light of the immutability and ever-present good of God, divine Truth and Love.
