Many years ago we lived near a beach. It was my custom to take our little daughter to the sand and spend the afternoon there. One day I noticed a women reading a little black book, and I asked if I could read it. It was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I read two pages in the chapter on Prayer. I then asked her where I could get a copy of it.

She took me to a Christian Science Reading Room a few blocks away, and I bought my own book. For three days I read it continually and found that I was healed of a periodic functional difficulty that neither a medical doctor nor an osteopath had been able to relieve. That was thirty-five years ago, and the healing has been permanent.

When I was a very little girl, my mother passed on, leaving five small children, and I was the youngest. As I was growing up, I carried with me a great sense of loss. Self-pity and sadness enveloped me most of the time. After I had been studying Christian Science for a while, I suddenly found that I was healed of this grief without any conscious effort on my part. I realized that God was really my Father and Mother and had cared for and protected me all these years, even though I knew it not. This precious truth has changed my entire outlook on life. I feel a joy I never knew before, for which I am truly grateful.
