"THAT PUBLISHETH PEACE"

As grateful and sincere students of Christian Science, do we fully appreciate and support the mission of the Christian Science periodicals in the world today? This mission of spiritual enlightenment is clearly defined in the words of the Bible (Isa. 52:7), "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!"

The peoples of the world are earnestly seeking the way to achieve permanent world peace and are longing for salvation. It is becoming increasingly and urgently apparent that only through the understanding of spiritual power, wisdom, and love—the power, wisdom, and love utilized so effectively by Christ Jesus—can the world eventually overcome the fear of destructive material inventions and the threat of totalitarian despotism.

It was Mary Baker Eddy who established the Christian Science periodicals and provided for the publishing of them. She writes (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353): "I have given the name to all the Christian Science periodicals. The first was The Christian Science Journal, designed to put on record the divine Science of Truth; thesecond I entitled Sentinel, intended to hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love; the third, Der Herold der Christian Science, to proclaim the universal activity and availability of Truth; the next I named Monitor, to spread undivided the Science that operates unspent. The object of the Monitor is to injure no man, but to bless all mankind."
