THE SOURCE IS PURE

St. John's record of his vision of the kingdom of heaven is rich in symbolism. At the climax of his vision, he wrote, referring to the angel guide (Rev. 22:1, 2): "He shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations."

The word "river" is frequently used in the Scriptures as a symbol. The river described by St. John was pure and clear, typifying true thought. How could it be otherwise, proceeding as it did from the throne of God? Error, with its disturbed, impure, destructive elements, would have no place in it. Truth alone could proceed from such a source.

In this glimpse of ultimate reality it was apparent to John that the source of all true thought and consciousness is divine and pure; therefore the manifestation must be equally pure.
